Even the best artists get it, right? Well they must do, because I do. Ha.

The way I work goes like this: have an idea for a painting; think about it a lot and maybe note down some ideas if I’m away from my art things; get various bits out and start; go away, come back, work on it a bit, go away, come back etc indefinitely. Stop. Feel completely lost about what to do next but know it’s not finished. (This is coupled with the Fear Of Adding More And Irrevocably Ruining It.)This is what’s happened here. This is a mixed media painting I am doing for my Mum’s 60th birthday. I am obsessed lately with whites and textures, and it seems to work in terms of what the painting’s about, with that kind of aged, vintage feel, so that’s what she’s getting. It’s about home and family and so far has been coming together almost by itself. The placement of everything is entirely intuitive; if it doesn’t ‘feel’ right, it doesn’t go there. Look at all the scrummy textures!Do you get artist’s block? What do you do when it happens? Got any surefire ways around it? I’d be very interested to hear your experiences. And also any opinions on what this piece might need…..

PS. Thank you so much to my new followers! I did wonder if I’d ever make it beyond 59. I’m so touched that people bother to come back. 🙂
