Even the best artists get it, right? Well they must do, because I do. Ha.
The way I work goes like this: have an idea for a painting; think about it a lot and maybe note down some ideas if I’m away from my art things; get various bits out and start; go away, come back, work on it a bit, go away, come back etc indefinitely. Stop. Feel completely lost about what to do next but know it’s not finished. (This is coupled with the Fear Of Adding More And Irrevocably Ruining It.)This is what’s happened here. This is a mixed media painting I am doing for my Mum’s 60th birthday. I am obsessed lately with whites and textures, and it seems to work in terms of what the painting’s about, with that kind of aged, vintage feel, so that’s what she’s getting. It’s about home and family and so far has been coming together almost by itself. The placement of everything is entirely intuitive; if it doesn’t ‘feel’ right, it doesn’t go there. Look at all the scrummy textures!Do you get artist’s block? What do you do when it happens? Got any surefire ways around it? I’d be very interested to hear your experiences. And also any opinions on what this piece might need…..
PS. Thank you so much to my new followers! I did wonder if I’d ever make it beyond 59. I’m so touched that people bother to come back. 🙂
No good with the artists block I'm afraid but this is looking great! Loving the textures, I'm sure she'll love the finished piece x
PS – yay at the followers! I can't get past the magic 14! LOL x
oh my word those textures are to die for!!! am totally loving the white as well.
As far as artists block goes, I grump my way through it… I have no sure fire way of getting rid of it or though it peacefully. So will be interested to read any suggestions.
I am sure your mum will just love this piece…

Aah …this is a lovely piece! I love all the different elements and I get the feeling of a precious lace garment that has languished in an old chest with collected treasures.
Artists block? Sometimes you just need a break but if it drags on for too long the best thing (for me) is to show up daily and create something even if it's only for 5 minutes …. or a 10 minute collage without pressure to do anything else.
This is beautiful Tara…something to be proud of. Lucky mum.
As for artists block…. I usually spend time tidying my studio (just as well it happens fairly regularly).

this is lovely Tara, thanks for sharing. When I get a block, I start another design and go back to the one in question. Its usually when Im away from my work, the final inspiration turns up! good luck, its almost there Id say! x
I love to see the process! great work you do! 🙂
