Recently in the Happy Artist Studio, I responded to a question in our monthly Q&A video about artistic process that seemed to resonate strongly with the members.
The question was about what we might call creative discomfort, and is something I recognise from years of helping artists develop their own processes and voice, as well as from my own experience.
If you’ve had formal training or taken a lot of courses, you gather a wealth of knowledge and experience about how to make art in various ways.
The issue is, how do we go beyond the bubble of the accepted, the commonly practiced, and what and how we’ve been taught?
As I talk about in my response, going outside that safe bubble can be uncomfortable, but there are ways to evolve it to something that fits you better, and it’s what will ultimately make us the artists we are meant and want to be, with a distinctive voice, a robust artistic process, and the self trust to create art we feel proud of.
If this sounds familiar, have a listen. I hope it helps!

Hi Tara
Once again, in this video, you’ve given me so much food for thought and, hopefully, I can encourage that into action. Over the years, you’ve been such a help and an inspiration and I can’t thank you enough. But, thank you so much anyway! ❤️
Hi Barbara, always lovely to hear from you! I’m so pleased you found the video helpful – food for thought is always my aim so that’s very satisfying to hear. 🙂 Thank you for the kind words and for following along for such a long time!
