The more I do on this piece, the less I like it. Useful techniques learned though.
Sometimes it’s just as much about what you don’t like using or doing as what you do. For example, the layers that make up her skin work for me as does the shape and layout of her eyes; the method and media for doing her eyes really don’t.
I was thinking I was kind of channelling Modigliani, but looking again at his work I’m less sure why I thought that.
Perhaps it’s a skin tone and lengthy neck thing. Look at those divine colours and compositions. Ahhhh.
Tara, are you talking about the first photo–why don't you like it? If I could make a piece like that…you're making me insecure 🙂
I love these photos of this artist's work!
Sorry Diane! 😉 I meant more that it wasn't turning out quite how I'd hoped but I learned a lot doing it. Probably sounded more negative than I intended! Also I was very impressed with your first sketch from Suzi's class – I don't think you have any reason to be insecure! 🙂
I really like your piece! I think she looks graceful and elegant!
I love her. Done in true pam carriker style. We are all too hard on ourselves , she really is beautiful Tara.
Also I love Modigliani's work , sighing with you …
Hey Tara, I've really seen a lot of progression in your work over the last year – your paintings are really good!
I think the way you have shaped the head and the almond eyes give a hint of Modigliani but it is still very different. Have you tried putting it oposite a mirror and looking at it. I find a look at things a bit through fresh eyes then. I was going to suggest takking a photo and looking at it on the computer but of course you have already done that!
Thank you Risa, Jackie and Lynne! I really appreciate your comments.
Hi Joanna – I forgot actually that turning a painting upside down shows you where you could change things too – thanks for the reminder!
Ooo…the last one in the black dress is my absolute fav! Are you selling these?
p.s. thanks for your precious visit on my blog. Summer & Autumn are on my shoulders right now & they're saying hi to you 🙂
