My ‘Inspired By’ posts began as a way to explore what makes me tick as an artist, what I’m drawn to, what makes my heart sing, what I might want to try out in terms of marks or colour combinations or compositions. They are also a way for me to share the work of artists whose work I love. I don’t advocate copying other artists instead of making our own work, however inspiring they are to us, but I do believe that we can learn from each other on our solitary artist journeys. This website is dedicated to the philosophy that you have a significant and unique offering inside you, waiting to be released. I created a course to help you with this very thing, which you can find by clicking here. May you be inspired to bring forth what’s within you!
I just recently stumbled on the paintings of Charlotte Evans, and knew instantly I’d have to share them with you.
I’m sure that looking at these you will see why. This is just a small selection of her gorgeous, colour-drenched canvases, and I realise looking at the ones I’ve chosen, I’ve gone straight for the watery ones. As is my way. 🙂
Charlotte is a British artist living in Brooklyn, New York. This is what she says about her work:
The subject of my work was until a few years ago solely landscape- colour and light. After a trip to Asia that began to change and now, while no less concerned with the things that engaged me before, I am working more with narratives, with things remembered and imagined, combined.
She certainly knows how to convey colour and light, and I love the new layer her recent direction has given her work. ‘Things remembered, imagined and combined’ sounds so magnetic, something I would love to paint myself.
She also says this, which I just love:
We all dream of somewhere other, somewhere that exists only in the mind’s eye, where emotions are heightened – happiness, melancholy, yearning…. These are the best places of all.
This canoe painting is one of my favourites. I love her rendering of trees and the reflections are just gorgeous.
You can find Charlotte on Twitter @charlotteevans, where she posts process shots and drawings {can’t wait to see those}, and a lot more of her work on Saatchi Online.
